Workshops - Wednesday June 16 1:30-5pm (Full)

 

Sizzling Seesaw – Jen

This workshop will give you insight into Jen’s program to teach a terrific teeter performance to any dog, large or small. In this workshop, your dog will learn to:

 

• Mount the board straight on

 

• Run all the way to the end of the board

 

• Go directly to his end position (either four-on or two-on/two-off) as the board hits the ground

 

• Stay on the board in his end position until he is given a release cue.

Backside Jump Skills – Rachel  (Full)

In this workshop, you will learn to get a truly independent backside jump. Rachel will teach you how to use your verbal and physical cues to help the dog understand his job.  Jumps and tunnels only.

 

Prerequisites – Dog should understand how to offer a jump and have been introduced to the backside of a jump.  Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Deceleration – MEB (Full)

This is a much needed workshop for agility competitors.  Most agility courses consist of many more turns than straight lines and most of these turns need deceleration skills.  While it may seem like a basic skill, deceleration is often underutilized and misunderstood. In this workshop, you will learn why, when and how to use deceleration. We will cover the elements of handling including connection, footwork, timing and your dog’s response to your cues.  We will cover the differences between the rhythm change, send and turning into your dog.  Jumps and tunnels only.

 

Prerequisites – Dog should understand commitment on one jump. Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Workshops - Thursday June 17 9am-12:30pm

 

Front Crosses – MEB (Full)

The front cross is one of the most difficult techniques to master.  It involves rotating your body and getting across the dog’s line in a timely manner.  In additional, there are so many different types of front cross.  Learn how to be proactive in performing an effective and efficient front cross.  Sequences will involve jumps and tunnels only.

Prerequisites – Dogs should be sequencing 8-10 obstacles. Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Either/Or – Jen (1 working spot available)

Do you and your dog understand the cues to give when he has multiple choices on which obstacle to take or which direction to approach or exit a jump or tunnel?  Jen will work with you on short sequences offering choices, EITHER this one OR that one. Dogs should be at least 8 months old and be sequencing jumps and tunnels.

 

Prerequisites – Dogs should be sequencing 8-10 obstacles. Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Novice Handling – Rachel (Full)

The perfect workshop for young dogs learning to put it all together or getting ready to compete.  Looking for sequences/courses with just “basic” handling that you will see on Starters and Novice courses.  This is the workshop for you.  Courses will consist of 14-18 obstacles and will include contacts and 6-12 weave poles.

 

Prerequisites – Dogs should be performing all equipment, although skipping obstacles that are not yet fully trained is ok.

Workshops Thursday June 17 1:30-5pm

Turn Aways – Jen (Full)

You will work with Jen on short sequences focusing on how to turn your dog away from you both over a jump and on the flat.  The following techniques will be covered: Whiskey, Rear Cross, Tandem, Flick, Lap Turn.  Jumps and tunnels only.

 

Prerequisites – dogs should be sequencing Dogs should be sequencing 6+ obstacles and should have a basic idea of how to turn away from the handler.  Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Running Aframe – Rachel (Full)

Rachel’s aframe box method has proved to be highly successful in dogs of all shapes and sizes. 

 

Her method gives your dog a clear understanding of the criteria for a successful running A-frame performance.  The box method trains your dog using a clear step by step process. Specific criteria is achieved with the completion of each step before moving on to the next step.  This allows both dog and handler to fully understand each behavior

 

Prerequisites – Handler should be somewhat familiar with the basics of Rachel’s method and the dog should have a basic understanding of how to offer the aframe box on the ground.

Workshops - Wednesday June 23 9am-12:30pm

 

Short Sequences – MEB (Full)

Sequences will consist of 4-8 obstacles. This is the perfect camp for young dogs learning to put it all together, or for handlers that are quite rusty after the quarantine.  Obstacles will consist of jumps & tunnels only.

 

Prerequisites – Dogs should be sequencing 4-8 obstacles. Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

“In” Jump Skills – Jen (1 working spot available)

In this workshop, you will learn to get a truly independent “in” jump, which means the dog should take the jump from the side closest to you. Jen will teach you how to use your verbal and physical cues to help the dog understand his job.  Jumps and tunnels only.

 

Prerequisites – Dog should understand how to offer a jump. Contacts and weaves not required and full height jumps not required.

Weave Drills – Rachel (Full)

Teach your dog more independent weaves including entries, exits and distance.   Learn some of Rachel’s fantastic drills and fix it techniques to truly improve your weave poles.

 

Prerequisites – Dog should be weaving 12 closed poles.

Workshops - Wednesday June 23 1:30-5pm

 

Z Box 2 on/2 off Contact Training – MEB (Full)

We will work on the following stages of 2 on/2 off contact training:

 

• Position work

• Offering of position

• Releases

• Moving into position with speed and enthusiasm

• Speed across the dogwalk (time permitting)

• Sequencing the Z box

 

The Z box method differs from other stationary contact training methods in that speed into position is an integral part of the process

Coursework – Jen (1 spot available)

Handlers will be put to the test working on technical courses. Courses will consist of about 20-25 obstacles and will be the equivalent of the highest level seen in the US. 

 

Prerequisites: Dogs should be 18 months or older, proficient on all obstacles, and should be able to complete USDAA Challenge, UKI Masters/Champ, AKC Premier/ISC level courses.

Discriminations – Rachel (Full)

Rachel will present various discriminations involving equipment placed in close proximity to each other, which presents your dog with a choice.  Learn how to use your verbal and physical cues to help the dog understand which obstacle to perform so that you can master even the most difficult of discriminations.

 

Prerequisites – Dogs should be performing all equipment, although skipping obstacles that are not yet fully trained is fine.

Workshops – Thursday June 24 9am-12:30pm

 

Tunnel Skills – MEB (Full)

We will focus on teaching the dogs how to go in and come out of the tunnels! Whether they go straight, turn tightly, or just a soft turn out of the tunnel. The tunnel is one of the least trained obstacles in agility!

 

Prerequisites – dog should have been introduced to the tunnel, one jump and have an understanding of how to go around a wing or a cone.

Reality Lines – Rachel (Full)

Before you develop your handling plan for your dog, you first should identify your dog’s reality line. Sometimes this may differ significantly from other dogs and other times we may be way off the mark! Using short sequences of jumps and tunnels, we will identify lead changes, best handling approaches and develop the best team plan for you and your dog.

 

Prerequisites – dogs should be 9 months of age or older. Contacts and weaves not required, full height jumps not required.
